Drama Styles:
Foundations of Drama
Lights! Camera! Action! It's time to start performing. Introduce your child to the basics of drama in a fun, pressure-free environment. With a great variety of games and activities children will learn about developing characters. By working together, the program will nurture and develop creativity and imagination.
Improvisation
Improvisation is perfect for developing cognitive skills, imagination and opens children up to theatre sports and as a result will be very game orientated rather than performance based. Although activities are teacher-directed, the final movement and sound will be self-devised.
Role Play
Role play is a perfect opportunity for children to let their imaginations run wild. Children are encouraged to complete a full transformation into the human and animal roles that form the focus of these lessons. With a new theme every week, each lesson is conducted in workshop style and the children are encouraged to develop characters and interact with the class rather than perform to an audience, ensuring they develop their own ideas and imagination rather than conform to teacher directed roles.
Story Telling
Each week the children are introduced to a new story which they will focus on through acting games and simplistic line learning. Every student has the chance to focus on all characters and the lessons are carried out in workshop style to ensure there is no pressure about learning lines or creating the perfect character. Children will discover new worlds as the explore childhood classics and create their own stories to act out.
Masks
The use of masks in the dramatic arts dates back thousands of years. In this program, children will have the opportunity to develop a character and make their own mask. Over four weeks they will learn to use gestures and physicality to tell a story about their character.
Clowning
Everybody loves a circus! This accessible way to explore physical theatre will introduce children to skills such as juggling, acrobatics and comedy. By exploring these skills and different aspects of theatre, children will have the opportunity to make up their own skits to perform each week. A great activity for fun and fitness.
Puppetry
From sock puppets to marionettes, children will have the opportunity to bring some of their favourite stories to like with different puppets. Every week children will take a well-known fairytale and put on their own puppet show using the materials provided. This program gives children the opportunity to develop vocal and motor skills.
Musical Theatre
Musical theatre focuses on bringing the elements of song, dance and acting together to create a triple-threat performance. Through Broadway-style dance, children learn about spacial awareness and teamwork. The musical theatre program also explores the linking of acting a scene into the performance of a song. Musical theatre is a great activity for children, building confidence and la developing musicality.
